Hundreds of birds die a cruel death each year
More than 10 white-tailed eagles have been poisoned within the last
two years. Golden eagle, peregrine falcon, rough-legged and common buzzards,
magpies, crows, ravens but also domestic dogs and cats are among the
victims, too.
The reason is human recklessness
... AND CARBOFURANEven though poison baiting in the open has been prohibited for more
than 40 years, it has become a trendy pest control lately. FURADAN, a widely
available insecticide containing carbofuran, is most frequently abused for
this purpose. A few drops of this poison can reliably kill not only the pests
harmful to farm plants but practically any living being. This is probably
the reason why baits laced with carbofuran can be found around the Czech
countryside; the "wildlife managers" use them to get rid of foxes, martens
or otters. Birds of prey or straying dogs are probably the non-target
animals which fall victims to the poisoned baits. Poison baiting, which can be dangerous for a human, too, can be
considered as several criminal acts at the same time. In spite of this
neither the state authorities nor the Police of the Czech Republic have
convicted any of the poisoners up to now. This website should help detect
and punish the perpetrators. |
